Copyright and Licensing Policy
CANDJ maintains distinct copyright policies for articles published before and after June 1, 2025.
For Articles Published Before June 1, 2025
All articles published prior to June 1, 2025, are copyrighted by the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND). Authors who submitted manuscripts during this time transferred full copyright ownership to CAND upon acceptance and publication. Permission to reuse such content must be obtained from CAND. See Permissions and Licensing for more information.
For Articles Published On or After June 1, 2025
Effective June 1, 2025, CANDJ adopted an open access publishing model under which authors retain copyright for their published work. Authors grant CAND (Publisher) a License to Publish their final article in the Journal and non-exclusive rights (except for commercial use, which is exclusive to the Publisher) upon acceptance.
Unless otherwise specified, articles published on or after this date are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) license. This license allows others to:
- Share — Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
- Adapt — Remix, transform, and build upon the material
Under the following terms:
- Attribution is given to the original author, a link to the license is included, and any changes are clearly noted. Attribution must not suggest endorsement by the author or publisher.
- The material is not used for commercial purposes.

For permission to make any kind of commercial use of material from CANDJ, written permission must be granted by CAND, who retains the right to levy an appropriate fee. See Permissions and Licensing.
Optional License: Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0)
Authors may choose to publish their work under the more permissive CC BY 4.0 license, which allows for unrestricted use—including commercial use—provided proper attribution is given. This option is available to authors whose funders or institutions require it. Learn more about the license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.
