Abstract

Sleep is a universal experience shared by all humans and is necessary to sustain life.1 Yet the influence of sleep on other physiological processes is still poorly understood. Increasing evidence is supporting the importance of adequate sleep for overall health, quality of life, decreased risk of disease and all-cause mortality.2, 3 More recently, the relationship between sleep and cardiovascular disease risk has been investigated and is emerging as an area that deserves increased attention.
