Assessing Anxiety and Depression in Young Populations: An Inventory of Environmental Risk Factors and Adverse Childhood Events

Anxiety and depressive disorders in children and adolescents affect social, physical, and emotional development necessitating thorough screening and assessment. Mood disorders in younger populations have known risk factors that are typically categorized as either psychological, biological, or environmental in origin. This article highlights environmental factors correlated with anxiety and depression during childhood and adolescence with an emphasis on adverse childhood events.
