CANDJ is Now Open Access
We are excited to announce that as of June 1, 2025, CAND Journal (CANDJ), the official publication of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), has transitioned to a diamond open access publishing model.
This means that all content published in the Journal is free to read, free to publish, and openly available to all.
What’s Changing—and Why
Our move to open access reflects a growing global commitment to equitable access to high-quality, peer-reviewed research. This change ensures that research published in CANDJ is freely accessible to clinicians, researchers, students, and the public—supporting wider knowledge exchange and advancing the field of naturopathic medicine.
Under this new model:
- Readers have full access to all articles without subscriptions, paywalls, or registration.
- Authors pay no article processing charges (APCs) to submit or publish. This model removes financial barriers for contributors while maintaining a rigorous peer-review process and high editorial standards.
- Authors retain copyright to their work and grant the Journal a non-exclusive License to Publish.
- Articles are published under a Creative Commons license, promoting reuse and distribution:
- The default license is CC BY-NC 4.0, which allows others to copy, share, and adapt the work for non-commercial purposes, with proper attribution.
- Authors whose funders or institutions require broader reuse rights may request the more permissive CC BY 4.0 license, which allows for commercial use with attribution.
